Celebrating $2 Million Raised for The Jimmy Fund & Dana-Farber

31 Tournaments to Raise $1 Million. Just Five to Raise the Next.

When we held our first golf tournament 37 years ago, we never could have imagined the impact this event would have on our family, friends, and the countless people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

It took us 31 tournaments to raise our first $1 million for the Jimmy Fund, a milestone we celebrated in 2021. Five tournaments later, we've doubled that amount, surpassing $2 million in lifetime fundraising for cancer research and patient and family care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This year's 36th Annual Basile Family Memorial Golf Tournament raised approximately $245,000 thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, golfers, donors, and volunteers.

After the September nor'easter forced us to reschedule, we weren't quite sure what to expect. But 210 golfers showed up ready to play and support the cause. Even clouds and light rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm throughout the day.

One of the most meaningful moments came during dinner when Christine and Liv Steiner openly shared their family's journey with leukemia. Liv's story reminds us why we continue this tradition year after year. Cancer affects entire families and underscores why the work being done at Dana-Farber is so important.

We also reached a new auction milestone: our silent and live auctions generated more than $13,000, including $8,400 from the live auction alone. It must have been Stephen Basile's newly discovered auctioneering talents!

Going the Extra Mile for The Jimmy Fund

On October 19th, our family was honored to receive the Jimmy Fund’s Ken Coleman Extra Mile Award in recognition of our longstanding commitment to Dana-Farber.

The Ken Coleman Extra Mile Award is a Jimmy Fund Golf honor recognizing outstanding tournament volunteers who go above and beyond in giving their time, energy, and dedication to support Dana-Farber’s mission. It recognizes the commitment behind the fundraising. Named after Ken Coleman, the former Boston Red Sox broadcaster and Jimmy Fund chairman, the award was renamed in his honor in 2003 because he exemplified that spirit of exceptional service.

For our family, this tournament is a way to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate those who have overcome cancer, and support families still facing it. Each year, we come together with that same purpose and the determination to make a difference.

Our Sincere Thanks to All Involved

This tournament comes to life through the generosity and dedication of so many people.

A Special Thank You to Christine and Liv Steiner: Thank you to Christine and Liv Steiner for sharing their family’s journey with leukemia so openly.

To Our Sponsors: Thank you for standing beside our family and supporting a cause that means so much to us. We’re grateful for your partnership and the difference we can make together for people facing cancer and their families.

To Our Golfers and Participants: Thank you for bringing your enthusiasm and generosity to Pinehills Golf Club. You helped make the day about more than golf, bringing friends, families, and colleagues together in support of a cause close to our hearts. We hope you enjoyed the friendly competition and time together as much as we did.

To Our Volunteers and the Team at Pinehills: Thank you for the care and hard work you put into every part of the day. From welcoming golfers at registration to wrapping up the awards, you helped everyone feel welcome and kept the tournament running smoothly. We’re grateful for your time, energy, and dedication to this event.

Looking Ahead, Together

As we celebrate our 36th tournament, we’re reminded of what this community has made possible. Your generosity keeps this family tradition going and supports the research and care that means so much to people facing cancer.

There’s more work ahead, and we’re grateful to have you beside us. Here’s to the next million and to the day when cancer is a disease of the past. With that goal in mind, our mission remains the same: raise one dollar more than the year before.
