Supporting Evidence-Based Discussion on Seed Oils at RCA 2026

Catania Oils, one of the nation’s largest processors and packagers of plant-based, edible oils, today announced its support of an independent educational session at this year’s Research Chefs Association Conference in Westminster, Colorado titled “Seed Oils, Myths vs. Facts.” The session will feature Dr. Idrees Mughal, more widely known as “Dr. Idz,” a medical doctor and science lecturer, recognized for his in-depth research and evidence-based analysis of nutrition and health claims.

The session will examine some of the most common and controversial claims surrounding seed oils – separating fear-based social media narratives from peer reviewed science. The goal is to inform attendees and highlight what the current research actually shows regarding the consumption of seed oils.

“Consumers are overwhelmed by conflicting information about food and health, and much of what’s out there is designed to provoke rather than inform,” noted Joseph Basile, President of Catania Oils. “As industry leaders, it’s our job to dispel misconceptions, elevate credible experts and engage in evidence-based dialogue, which is exactly what Dr. Idz will do at RCA. We look forward to having an open conversation based on science not speculation.”

Dr. Mughal has built a global following based on his writings, lectures and podcast appearances. He critically examines nutrition misinformation and explains the real science behind dietary facts, metabolism and long-term health outcomes. His work on seed oils draws on long-standing engagement with peer-reviewed nutrition research and independent analysis, predating the recent surge of social media controversy on the topic.

“My goal is to help people evaluate evidence for themselves and make informed decisions grounded in science not prevailing narratives,” said Dr. Mughal. “Nutrition science is complex and is often misinterpreted by viral claims that oversimplify or misrepresent the evidence.”

Catania Oils’ sponsorship of this session reflects its broader commitment to fostering discussions within the edible oils industry that move beyond headlines and provide a deeper understanding of evidence-based scientific research.

The Seed Oils Myths vs. Facts session will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10th at the Westin Westminster and brings together chefs, food scientists, manufacturers and industry leaders to discuss several of the most pressing topics in the culinary industry.
